Grant Nachman

Grant Nachman

Chief Investment Officer & Chief Executive Officer

Grant Nachman is the Chief Investment Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Shorecliff Asset Management. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the firm’s investment strategy, portfolio construction, research and analysis, and risk management, as well as leading Shorecliff’s overall business operations.

 

Mr. Nachman brings 21 years of principal investment experience across multiple cycles, having held roles at leading firms including Millennium Management, Oaktree Capital Management, and Brigade Capital. His expertise spans both performing and stressed capital structures, with sector coverage that includes technology, media, telecom, leisure, transportation, healthcare, industrials, services, and power. During and after the financial crisis, he invested in many of the largest corporate restructurings, serving as an active participant on seven creditor-side steering committees.

 

He holds an MBA from The Wharton School, a Master’s in Economics from The Sorbonne, and a BA in Economics from Swarthmore College.

Anthony La Lota, CFA

Portfolio Manager

Anthony La Lota is the Portfolio Manager of Shorecliff Asset Management, where he shares primary responsibility with Grant for the firm’s investment strategy, research process, and risk management.

Mr. La Lota has 11 years of experience as a credit investor at firms including Crescent Capital, Oaktree Capital Management, and Bank of Ireland. At Oaktree, he worked directly with Grant, jointly evaluating and investing in performing and stressed corporate credit opportunities. His sector expertise includes aerospace, defense, media, technology, telecom, transportation, leisure, and services.

Mr. La Lota holds a BS in Finance from Rutgers Business School, where he transferred after beginning his studies at the University of Michigan. During his collegiate career, Mr. La Lota played Division I football at both institutions as a full scholarship recipient. Mr. La Lota is a CFA Charterholder.

Phelps Hoyt

Senior Advisor

Phelps B. Hoyt is a seasoned financial professional with over 40 years of experience. Before his current roles, he spent nearly 11 years as Head of Credit Research and Strategy at the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (“GIC”) and nearly five years as GIC’s Head of Americas Fixed Income. He led global teams across the US, Asia, and Europe, covering public and private credit, including large investments and co-investments with external managers.

 

Prior to GIC, Mr. Hoyt was Head of High Yield Research at Principal Global Investors where the team invested in global public high yield bonds. He also held senior credit investment roles at Aviva Investors, Fitch Ratings and KDP Investment Advisors.

 

He holds a BA in Economics from Middlebury College and an MBA from Northwestern University. He is a CFA Charterholder.

Pearl Chang

Senior Portfolio Strategist

Pearl Chang is a Senior Portfolio Strategist at Shorecliff, where she shares responsibility for investment strategy, portfolio analytics, research processes, and risk management for the firm’s investment team. She has 32 years of professional experience.

Prior to joining Shorecliff in 2025, Ms. Chang was a Managing Director at Oaktree Capital Management. At Oaktree, she served as Director of Research and ESG Lead for the firm’s leveraged loans strategy. Before Oaktree, she was a Portfolio Manager at Google, where she established and managed the company’s first internal credit portfolio, and built and led a credit research team. She has also held senior roles at Charles Schwab Investment Management, SCM Advisors (f/k/a Seneca Capital Management), and CreditSights. She started her career at Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers.

Ms. Chang holds an AB in English from Princeton University and an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Ryan Aylward

Senior Investment Analyst

Ryan Aylward is a Senior Investment Analyst, where he is responsible for fundamental investment analysis of leveraged loans and bonds across both primary and secondary markets. In addition, he is responsible for monitoring, dynamically underwriting, and re-underwriting investments in the portfolio, as well as researching sector themes and communicating them to Shorecliff’s portfolio management leadership. His primary industry coverage includes consumer & retail, financial services, and technology.

 

Prior to Shorecliff, Mr. Aylward worked at Playstudios, a publicly traded mobile gaming company, where he led M&A and strategic partnerships. Mr. Aylward began his credit-investing career at Oaktree Capital Management where he underwrote public and private leveraged credit investments across sectors. 

 

Mr. Aylward holds a BBA in both Finance and Accounting from Baylor University where he graduated cum laude.

Jack Foster

Senior Investment Analyst

Jack Foster is a Senior Investment Analyst, where he is responsible for fundamental investment analysis of leveraged loans and bonds across both primary and secondary markets. In addition, he is responsible for monitoring, dynamically underwriting, and re-underwriting investments in the portfolio, as well as researching sector themes and communicating them to Shorecliff’s portfolio management leadership. His primary industry coverage includes aerospace & defense, leisure, logistics & transportation, media, and telecommunications.

Prior to Shorecliff, Mr. Foster was a Vice President within the Capital Markets team at Crescent Capital Group, a credit investment firm, where he was responsible for sector coverage across multiple liquid credit investment strategies. Prior thereto, he was an Associate at Oaktree Capital Management, where he performed fundamental credit analysis across a variety of industries to support the firm’s senior analysts and portfolio managers. He began his career as an Analyst in the Financial Restructuring group at Houlihan Lokey. 

 

Mr. Foster holds a BA in Financial Economics from Columbia University.

Owen Saul

Senior Investment Analyst

Owen Saul is a Senior Investment Analyst, where he is responsible for fundamental investment analysis of leveraged loans and bonds across both primary and secondary markets. In addition, he is responsible for monitoring, dynamically underwriting, and re-underwriting investments in the portfolio, as well as researching sector themes and communicating them to Shorecliff’s portfolio management leadership. His primary industry coverage includes diversified industrials, autos, paper & packaging, services, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.

 

Prior to Shorecliff, Mr. Saul worked at Scarsdale Capital, a credit hedge fund, where he researched and recommended cross-capital, event-driven corporate credit opportunities. Mr. Saul began his credit investing career at Steele Creek Asset Management, Moelis’s CLO platform.

 

Mr. Saul holds an MS in Commerce from the University of Virginia and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Clemson University.

Dave Poulten

Chief Business Officer

David Poulten is the firm’s Chief Business Officer. He oversees corporate development, legal affairs, accounting, and tax, among other functions.  

Prior to Shorecliff, Mr. Poulten worked at Inceptiv Management. Before Inceptiv Management, Mr. Poulten served as the CFO and COO for Glendon Capital and worked in various COO roles for Barclays Capital.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of Bristol (UK) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA).

Mark Bellias

Chief Operating Officer & Chief Compliance Officer

Mark Bellias is the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. He oversees operations, trade settlement and financing, compliance, and systems, among other functions.

Prior to Shorecliff, Mr. Bellias served for 15 years as Director of Operations at Symphony Asset Management. Before Symphony, Mr. Bellias worked at Barclays Global Investors.

He holds undergraduate degrees in Finance and Computer Information Systems from Bryant University.

Katelynn Mimms

Senior Associate

Katelynn Mimms is a Senior Associate on the Strategic Partnerships team, assisting with external strategic initiatives and investor relations.

 

Ms. Mimms holds a BS in Criminal Justice and Psychology and an MS in Criminal Justice from Grand Canyon University.

Chris Lin, CPA

Director of Strategic Partnerships

Chris Lin is a Director on Shorecliff’s Strategic Partnerships team, overseeing external strategic initiatives and investor relations.

Prior to joining Shorecliff, Mr. Lin worked in Blackstone’s Multi-Asset Investing (BXMA) division, serving as a product specialist covering institutional client relationships. Before Blackstone, he worked in Nomura’s Equity Private Placements group and Citi’s Corporate Banking division. Mr. Lin began his career in public accounting in New York.

Mr. Lin holds an MS in Accounting and a BS in Finance and Accounting from the New York University Stern School of Business. He is a licensed CPA in the State of New York.

Elizabeth Stein 

Senior Legal Analyst

Elizabeth Stein is a Senior Legal Analyst with over 30 years of experience, having served as a practicing attorney at the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

 

She holds a BA from Tulane University and earned her JD from Northwestern University School of Law.
